this homework they had to read a chapter and answer seven question based on that reading and critical thinking. The answer to these questions is not a one sentence deal, but had a set limit of at least two paragraphs each. They were also not allowed to simply copy the answers word for word from the book. They had to interpret the reading and put it into their own words. The reading was for the material that will be covered in class the next day, which got them thoroughly prepared for the test as well as for the discussion that they had daily. These students knew the material and they knew it well.
The seats were arranged in a horse shoe shape and every student got to see every other student. They felt comfortable with one another and had no problem speaking like they were friends for a lifetime. Everybody’s opinions were valued and there was no such a thing as a wrong answer. If a student was wrong about something the others will very politely correct him/her without making that student feel bad about giving the wrong response, even though some of these students were just trying to show off their knowledge to the teacher. It seemed like some of them needed to prove themselves worthy and that they knew the material well.
My average class was a bit different from this one. The class was very distinctly divided into groups. The African Americans seemed to huddle together; The Asians had their own section. The Russian boys and girls sat in their own exclusive section. The African American students were not as restrictive, on the other hand, within their group there were incorporated some Hispanics, and some Caucasian students. The only common factor that I have observed between them is the way they were dressed. They all had on baggy pants and do rags. It is very possible that they belong to the same group, possibly a school team (such as an extracurricular activity).
