s, people are not interested in using them. The same study has shown that people tend not to use them if they own a car. It goes on to say that people would rather wait in traffic in their automobile rather than wait the same amount of time for a bus or a train. The bottom line is that if people continue moving out of cities, the more congested roads and highways are going to be.
Since most suburbanites commute to and from work, a great solution would be for the government to encourage carpooling. This would take many cars off of the highway, and also help to cut back on pollution. Additional lanes dedicated to carpooling only could be added to help encourage this. With every possible solution come drawbacks. The major problems with carpooling are that most people do not work close by each other, making it a nuisance that most people do not want or need. They would just rather drive themselves and save the hassle of running around the city. The problem with the car-pooling lanes is that a lot of people would take advantage of them.
