The stock market is the financial backbone for many businesses around the world. Stocks allow businesses the financial support they need to function and grow in the economy, but in a cyclical market buying stocks for the consumer can be very risky. That is why it is very important to know the intricacies before purchasing a stock. Many people rely on the help of the stock broker to guide them through the stock market. Stock brokers make it their job to assist their clients in making knowledgeable decisions on their stock purchases. With a balance of a well educated stock broker and a willing client, they can team up to make a profitable portfolio. My portfolio for this class consists of Apple Computers, Best Buy, eBay, Google, Home Depot, PF Chang, UPS, and The Sprint Corporation, but I will only be talking about my most interesting ones (eBay, Apple Computers, UPS, and the sprint corporation). In this paper I will discuss why I picked these companies, the background of the companies, how my portfolio performed, and what I learned from this assignment.
Founded in September 1995 eBay Inc. developed an Internet-based community in which buyers and sellers are brought together to buy and sell almost anything. The eBay online service permits sellers to list items for sale, buyers to bid on items of interest and all eBay users to browse through listed items in a fully automated, topically arranged service that is available online seven days a week making eBay the most popular destination on the internet. Through the PayPal service, the Company enables any business or consumer with e-mail in 38 countries to send and receive online payments. As of December 31, 2003, eBay had websites directed toward the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
