In comparison to the current staff the new breed of UPS workers will be less tolerant. Their level of acceptance in regards of UPS’ rules and demands will be lower, only because they might feel that with a college education they have more extensive job options. College degree workers will have more flexibility in finding another job and are probably going to require a much higher pay. Most of its new employees will be fresh out of college, which might mean an even lower tolerance level. As a result of being young workers they probably have not yet started a family unit, which puts them at higher risk of quitting the job.
The new recruits will possibly only work part-time and perhaps spend a short amount of time in the company. They might see this job as their first step in the working experience ladder. The new staff will be less reliable because they might find better jobs in which their skills will be better valued and utilized. Many of the existing staff are more tolerant because they have accustomed themselves with the high demands and the stress involved with being an employee at UPS. They are also aware of their limitations and responsibilities to family. The market for workers such as the ones in the current staff is not very high and the benefits and profit-sharing plan are attractive to the present workers.
Though many improvements were made in improving the conditions for workers it might still be unappealing for the college degree workforce. Therefore it must be taken into consideration that their tolerance level might be lower than the current staff, and that it might be extremely more costly in the long run to hire the new breed of workers than to keep the present workers....
