e Army for National Liberation (ELN) and was formed with the goal in mind to disrupt and destroy the oil industry. They were composed mainly of university students who had just come back from Cuba and were taught to follow Ernesto "Che" Guevara's principles of rural guerrilla warfare. Although their principal goal was oil, they, as well as the FARC, took part in many acts of terrorism and assassinations which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people (Leech "Fifty Years of Violence"). Although the country's government and army have done many things to try and stop these guerrilla groups, including peace talks and negotiations, not much has changed. Both the FARC and ELN have taken part in civil disobedience, activism, and, most of all, terrorism.
