additional electric source, electricity became more available (technically and
economically), contributing to industrial development. The problem is that the
developing industry was not accompanied with any ecological awareness (e.g.,
development of a waste water system).
The formation of the big upstream reservoir (lakes Nasser and Nubia) has several
positive effects as well. The existence of such a large freshwater reservoir, in
arid climate as in Egypt, is a big advantage for the Egyptian economy and
population. A possible proof for that is the fact that even during the long
droughts the region had experienced, there were no starvation in Egypt. In
addition, the formation of the reservoir made the navigation between Egypt and
Sudan more easier and comfortable and, increased the tourism potential of the
region (even though non of these was applied in reality). The physical and
