Frederick Douglass’s master, Captain Anthony, had two sons, Andrew and Richard, and a daughter, Lucretia, who was married to Captain Thomas Auld. They all lived together in one house on a central plantation owned by Colonel Lloyd. Colonel Lloyd employed Captain Anthony as superintendent, meaning that Anthony supervises all of Lloyd’s overseers. Lloyd’s plantations raised tobacco, corn, and wheat. Captain Anthony and his son-in-law, Captain Auld, took goods by ship to sell in Baltimore.
