Bitter Harvest

. Instead of harvesting the crops of dry-crested grass, they were setting up shops and trying to “sell” merchandise. These children don’t rush home for supper either; instead they stayed around and quietly pulled out sandwiches from a brown paper bag and bowed their heads in prayer before they ate. Soon after they have eaten, they were back to work, setting up their retail businesses until the sun set behind the horizon.

The oddity of this whole scenario does not stop with the new group of children being at the fort, but instead, the strangeness continued when I saw the children who originally owned the fort coming toward the stronghold in anger. They were ready to kick the new kids out. After some bitter words, angry shoves and nasty punches, the new group of children left the premises and all seemed normal again- until the next day. Once again, the new group of children showed up and reclaimed the fort; they had the same ritual as the day before (not leaving for supper, praying before they munched on their sandwiches, etc.) and soon, like the day before, the original group of children showed up. Words were exchanged, punches were thrown and children leave crying—the new children that was. I have watched this go on day after day and each day, there is a battle--always some sort of violence over the fort. ...
