DOLPHINS INTELLIGENCE AND INTERACTION WITH HUMANS

Overview

Dolphins are known to be one of the most intelligent species of animals. Together with the chimpanzees, the dolphins can be one of the closest links between the animals and the humans. Thinking about their way of communication strikes researchers with its similarity to human speech and interaction. My research paper will focus on the way of communication and interaction between humans and dolphins and try to provide a viable hypothesis to the question whether dolphins are equal to humans in their brain mass and function as well as the way they comprehend and learn from the surrounding world.

Outside of his striking friendliness, the Dolphin seems to have a well-developed sense of humor. Dolphins have been known to silently maneuver behind an unsuspecting pelican and snatch its tail feathers. Other pranks include grabbing fish by the tail, pulling them backward a few feet as well as bothering slow turtles by rolling them over.

It has been suggested that the reason dolphins always seem to be grinning is that they understand our language and are patiently waiting for us to learn theirs. With this thought in mind, I will try to find out whether common languages exist for the people and dolphins. Some tribes in Mexico communicate by whistling. Could Dolphins learn and speak one of these human whistling languages? Whether this is feasible or not, I don't know, but it might be well worth the effort if it could allow us to meet them halfway!

What if we could communicate with dolphins. What could we learn from them? Is it possible for man and dolphins to work side-by-side as equals? These are a few questions that pop in my mind as I look forward to writing this paper....
