It’s simple math—there just aren’t enough homes for all these animals. You personally can make a difference by spaying or neutering your pet. It is the single most important thing you can do to prevent animal cruelty. Spaying or neutering your pet is beneficial to you, your pet, and your community.
Spay or neuter surgery is a simple process that removes the reproductive organs in male or female cats and dogs. Spaying is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs (ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes) of the female animal. Neutering is the surgical removal of the reproductive glands (testes) of the male animal. Females and males should be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All surgery is performed under general anesthesia by a licensed veterinarian. In most cases, your animal companion will be able to go home either the same day or the next day, and within a few days will be fully recovered.
Spaying or neutering your pet can have many benefits. Spaying helps pets live longer, healthier lives. It can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be difficult or expensive to treat.
