r un employed people between the age of 16 and 22 (“Job Crops” ); Medicare, health insurance that covered 65 or older, people with kidney disease, received social security disability benefits or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for at least two years (“Medicare”); Head Start, offers educational, medical, and social benefits to preschool children from low-income families; Medicaid, pays medical expenses for many people who otherwise cannot afford it; Equal Opportunity Commission, it seeks to promote equal job opportunities for women and minority group members; and Welfare programs, also better known as public assistance, where the government provide money, medical care, food, housing, and other necessities for needy people. Food Stamp program and Medicaid were actually a result from welfare. Community Action Programs(AP), National Job Crops, Manpower Development Training Act, Vocational Education Act are all other established made from War on Poverty and the Great Society, which is the head leader over all programs developed even War on Poverty. These programs gave each citizen all the opportunities of his society to advance his welfare to the limit of his capacities. War on Poverty was a daily struggle to secure the necessities for even a meager existence.
Why was it created? According to President Johnson: “... to declare war on a domestic enemy which threatens the strength of our Nation and the welfare of our people” ( Johnson). Johnson proclaimed a continuation of Kennedy’s program,
income-tax revision, foreign aid, and a vigorous but flexible foreign policy. The federal government had over spent for the Vietnam War while the other programs was further reduced (Mooney). Troops were sent to fight in the war while President Johnson’s administration. Many Americans believed the war was unjust.
