was one of 52 children brought up
by his dad, Muhammad bin Laden (Waller 32-33). Muhammad bin
Laden was a wealthy Saudi construction worker who made millions
during his lifetime. With his dad being so wealthy, Osama was
privileged to have a good education. He completed his education by
graduating from Riyadh University with a management and economics
degree (Shahar 1).
Osama was very lucky to have such a successful father because
he inherited many millions from the wealthy Saudi constructor.
Having inherited this much money can sometimes go to the brain, and
in this instance it did. Osama bin Laden is the prototype of a new
breed of terrorists, the private entrepreneur who puts the modern
enterprise at the service of a world-wide network of terrorists (Shahar
1). In other words bin Laden uses his money that he inherited from
his dad to train, house, and protect young Muslim radicals. He funds
terrorist acts from Afghan hideouts (Hosenball 52). He is teaching
them how Allah, the Muslim God, called for the total destruction of
Christians and Jews and that anyone opposing the Islam religion is
the enemy.
It all started in the year 1979. The Soviet Union, united and
ready for battle, invaded their neighbor to the south Afghanistan.
This was known as the Mujahedin War. Looking at a map, one would
see that the Soviet Union is close to five times as big as Afghanistan,
so the word that might protrude in one’s head might be massacre.
The size of the Soviet Union meant nothing to young Osama. The
minute he heard about the invasion, he began to brainstorm on how
