V8 supercars are the better racing category than Formula 1. Both of them have elements in which make them enjoyable but v8 supercars is the far more superior category.

V8 supercars are one of the fastest growing sports in Australia with it now being the third most watched sport in Australia behind cricket and AFL. In recent years it has become international with events being held in Shanghai, China and Pukekohe, New Zealand. V8 supercars have been around now for around 50 years but only the last ten years have been purely V8’s with Ford and Holden only.

This season there are 19 teams and 40 drivers competing but they only let 32 cars race at each event, except Bathurst which is the biggest and longest event going for about 6 ½ and covering 1000kms. V8 supercars is a very exciting and close racing sport, they use control tyres and similar 5.0L V8 engines that produce around 620 horsepower and the cars are heavily scrutinized after each race and the cars look just like you normal road cars. Last year there were 8 different round winners out of 13 but because the points system rewards consistency Marcos Ambrose was a run away winner.

Millions of dollars are spent each year in sponsorship with Carlton United Beverages and Telstra being the main sponsors of the series. To be able to run a competitive team it will cost around $7 million per year with the Holden Racing team spending $10 million last year. Crowds have been at a record level the last couple years with the Clipsal 500 breaking all records with over 200,000 people cramming into the Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit with only the gold Coast and Bathurst events getting close. V8 supercar events are held in all Australian states/territory’s except the ACT which lost its event three years ago due to poor crowd figures mainly because of its June Climate.
