r his mom died he had no one. He traveled from city to city living off practi-cally nothing. Adolf often read a magazine called the Ostara, which argued that blond Germanic people were a, "higher" race. The gypsies, the slaves, and Jews, were the ene-mies of the , "Master Race". Anti-Semitism became one of Hitler’s obsessions. Hitler soon moved to Munich across Germany until he got deported for being a draft dodger.
On June 28,1914, 6 months later, Hitler returned to Munich one month after World War I had begun. Hitler was very enthusiastic because this was his first chance to be someone. He did not want to fight for Austria so he fled from Vienna to avoid it but he was passionately loyal to Germany. Hitler was excepted with no comment, and within a week he was private Hitler of the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment.
In the four years of World War I he was promoted only to the rank corporal. But he did receive an Iron Cross for his courage and devotion. In October1916, while fighting in France, he was wounded in the leg and sent back to Germany. By 1918 it was clear that Germany had lost the war. A furious Hitler returned to war but was finally put out of commission on October14,1918. A gas shell struck near him, and he was blinded two days after Germany signed an armistice that brought World War I to an end.
Hitler was sent to investigate a group which called itself the German Workers party. He loved it there. At his new job he gained experience of speaking to audiences. The German workers party were very impressed when Drexler (the founder) went to shake his hand, and give him a pamphlet inviting him to the next meeting. Hitler took the pamphlet but didn’t want the invitation.
Hitler received orders to join the German Workers party. He was elected at once and put in charge of propaganda. He put a lot of money in on advertising meetings. On October 16,1919 a crowd of 70 people came to hear Hitler’s ...
