First: What the sow’s head symbolizes:
The sow’s head symbolizes many things. One thing that it symbolizes is evil. I feel as though it symbolizes evil because it is for the beast, which is evil. Also it symbolizes evil because it on page 142 it states to Simon “ Fancy thinking you could hunt and kill! O You knew didn’t you? I’m part of you?” which to me means it is evil.

Another thing that the sow’s head symbolizes is the meaning of the book. It symbolizes the meaning of the book because it is pronounced to be the Lord of the Flies on page 138. By pronouncing that it is the Lord of the Flies in my opinion it gives you some incite into the meaning of the book.

The sow’s head also symbolizes power. It symbolizes power because after they hung the head on the stake the boys ran away as if it is was attacking them. Then the boys did not speak of it afterwards.

Also the sow’s head symbolizes ritual. It symbolizes ritual in the way that every time the boys killed a pig they left the head for the beast. They left the head to stop the beast from harming them.

Second: What the conch symbolizes:
The conch symbolizes many things. One thing that the conch symbolizes is a sense of home. It symbolizes a sense of home because on page 15 when it was found Piggy recalled the story of back at home when he became familiar with what it was.

It also symbolizes coming together and order. It symbolizes these things because when it is blown everyone comes together and listens. An example of this is when it was first blown at the beginning of the book on page 20 everyone came together and listened at their first assembly.

Another thing that the conch symbolizes is power. It symbolizes power because however has the conch has the power to speak and the others boys listen. When the person has the conch they can speak of whatever is on their mind.
