Oedipus Rex In the play Oedipus Rex, Sophocles tells the story of a young man who is taken through life by his fate. Before he was born he was destined to kill his father and marry his mother. Although he did not willingly do this, the events still took place and it is only in the end of the play that Oedipus finds out the truth about the wrongs he has done. Throughout the play Oedipus is searching for the killer of Laius, who is actually his father, and ironically it turns out that it was him all along.
