Communication Intercultural Communication In chapter 11, Intercultural communication I found that many instances in my life related to the stereotypes and prejudice section. After reading the paragraphs on stereotypes. I couldn’t help but think back to my high school days. Sadly I stereotyped people just as much as the next person. It wasn’t even intended to be something done to mean it was just the way to survive in high school. It was easier to put people into a nice little clump instead of having to get to know them individually. It was also easier on myself to know I belonged to a group I didn’t care if I was being stereotyped. I felt safer knowing that this was my group and this is where I belonged. The definition of stereotypes is a generalized second hand belief that provide conceptual biases from which we make sense out of what goes on around us, whether they are accurate or fit the circumstances. This definition fits my high school to a tee. Thankfully I have learned that generalizing people like that was not the way I wanted to be I thought it was a part of survival people, school, prejudices, high, way, stereotypes, stereotyped, never, make, made, life, learned, know, just, hand, group, definition, think, that’s, thankfully, something, someone, seem, realize, prejudice, person, myself, intercultural, instances, generalizing, funny, easier, didn’t, couldn’t, chapter, belonged, believe, been, because, bad, around, am, younger, years, wrong, work, wonders, whether, whatever, wasn’t
