Cognitive Development Study SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION 1:1 - AIM The aim of this investigation is to observe and report on a child that attends Calvary Christian College, and asses their relative stage of development as determined by Jean Piaget. 1:2 - ENVIRONMENT The child being studied in this investigation, CH4, is a preschool student currently attending Calvary Christian College. He is an outgoing child and is quite intelligent. SECTION 2: REVIEW OF LITERATURE 2:1 - SCHOOL The subject, CH4, attends Calvary Christian College, a small private school. The schools mission is to provide a distinctly Christian education, to strengthen the family and help prepare students to meet the challenges of life. 2:2 PIAGETS THEORY OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT Jean Piaget was a famous Swedish psychologist whose studies and theories on cognitive development have had a major impact on child psychology. Piaget suggested that children go through four separate stages in a fixed order that is universal in all children. These stages are: 1. Sensorimotor ... 0-2 years 2. Preoperational . 2-7 years a. Preconceptual 2-4 years b. Intuitive . 4-7 years 3. Concrete Operations ..7-11 years 4.
