The Truth About Abortions Abortion An abortion is the forcible removal of a developing baby from the womb of his or her mother, using surgical, mechanical, or chemical means. In some countries and States it is illegal. People need to know that abortions can be done either illegally or legally. Abortions have been practiced for centuries in several different ways. Some of the reasons why, is to restrict population growth. There is about 1.5 million abortions (and rising) done annually. There are several different ways an abortion can be performed. Here are just a few examples: Suction Aspiration; The method of abortion most commonly used for early pregnancies. The abortionist inserts a hollow plastic tube into the dilated uterus. The tube is connected to a powerful suction apparatus. The suction tears the baby into pieces. Dilation and Evaluation; Used after 12 weeks. A pliers-like instrument is needed because the babies bones are calcified, as is the skull. The abortionist inserts the instrument into the uterus, seizes a leg or other part of the body and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the babies body. The spine must be snapped and the skull crushed in order to remove them from the womb.
