To Flog Or Not To Flog
To Flog Or Not To Flog To Flog or Not to Flog What should America do about people who commit crimes? Should we flog them in public and cause humiliation and embarrassment to set them straight or should we send them to jail for a certain amount of time? Who is to say what we do? There are many theories from many different people that state how people should be “taken care of” for their crimes. A psychologist by the name of Karl Menninger says that criminals should be psychologically evaluated because they are “sick not bad” and treated for their crimes instead of punished because nothing good ever comes from punishment. Wasserstrom counters that criminals are not punished for being sick that would be cruel we punish them for the acts they commit. I do not agree with Menninger’s statement because whether a criminal is mentally ill, he or she knows the consequences even if they think that what they are doing isn’t wrong. I have to agree with the writings of Richard Wasserstrom, George F. Will, Gregory P. Hetter and Graeme Newman who are for the punishment of criminals and believe that the state of the legal system of today is diminishing, that if laws were stricter, the flog, punishment, criminals, crimes, should, because, commit, society, state, something, physical, crime, township, therapy, taken, returned, released, potential, people, paradise, offenders, inmates, good, done, doesn’t, criminal, commited, believe, agree, wasserstrom, take, system, stricter, statistics, sick, show, seem
