Terrorism
Terrorism Terrorism is an extreme act that stems from conflict in society. Conflict theory suggests that a group that sees this common conflict may take drastic measures into their own hands in order to accomplish their common goals, thus ending the conflict. As stated in the handout on terrorist violence, “…terrorists insist that illegal actions are needed.” Often times these groups are going against the U.S. government. This is true because the government is made up of a majority of upper class, Anglo Americans who share both power and wealth. These officials view anyone who is trying to make a substantial change in society as a threat because it will undoubtedly affect the status quo, which those in power are trying to maintain. “The status quo is viewed as oppressive; desperate measures are believed essential to end the suffering of the deprived” (terrorist violence). Many terrorist groups insist that working with the government is like working with a brick wall. They may not be taken seriously or the government may not even give them the time of day. Sometimes this triggers a reaction that makes the government wish they were a little more understanding. terrorist, terrorism, government, groups, palen, acts, conflict, trying, own, group, 472, violence, state, political, make, hands, drastic, because, against, working, thus, terrorists, status, society, ski, seen, receive, quo, power, people, order, often, non-violent, needed
