Gender Gap
Gender Gap Gender Roles In American Society Are men and women really equal? In our country, there are laws that have been made to ensure equality for men and women but women are far from equal. Our society has socially constructed us to think of men one-way and women differently. Why is that little boys wear blue and little girls wear pink? Why is it that the man makes the money in the marriage and the woman is just the housewife? What puts these crazy but excepted ideas in our heads? The public discourse of gender gap between men and women in our society explains it all. Subliminal messages in the media are presented to us wherever we turn. Magazines and television ads are strong, powerful forums of public discourse, which greatly distinguish gender roles in our society. These ads are so persuasive and a part of every day life, that they go unnoticed. From the day you are born to the day you die, you are socially constructed to be who you are. In the essay, “Men, Women, and Computers”, Barbara Kantrowitz explores the differences between male and female roles in American society. I strongly agree with her thoughts and ideas distinguishing women, society, men, hair, television, man, woman, gender, public, pink, ads, magazine, girls, discourse, show, playing, little, kantrowitz, girl, american, roles, look, clean, boys, boy, through, socially, role, power, male, forums, family, dirty, detergent, constructed, considered, commercials, clothes, because, beautiful, advertise, think, shows, should, says, result, products, product, must, mother
