The Crucible
The Crucible Back in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, an historical event took place. The testimony of a church member, who claimed to have seen a person's spirit performing witchcraft, was enough to sentence the accused to be hung. Innocent people were put on trial and convicted of this so horrible sin, all because someone suspected that the things they did caused little children to become sick. This caused the people of Salem to turn on each other. Many people feared for their lives, they feared they wouldn't be accepted, and there were many fears and suspicions, which eventually destroyed this society. In Salem at this time, many people feared for their lives. My first example took place in Act 2. Elizabeth and John Proctor are at their house when Ezekiel Cheever enters. Cheever has come on behalf of the court, and he notifies them that he has come to take Elizabeth to jail for the crime of witchcraft. Apparently, Abigail Williams, a cold hearted, troubled teenager has accused Elizabeth of ventriloquism. She had a poppet that she was sewing in church one morning, and when she finished with it, she stuck the pin she crucible, proctor, people, john, elizabeth, putnam, danforth, mary, giles, witchcraft, page, dialogue, accused, feared, because, out, now, man, fear, act, thomas, salem, one, cheever, another, accepted, turns, think, take, states, names, mr, lives, just, judge, jail
