The Jewish Community:

 In the Middle ages the Jewish community is very small. Comprising of one or two dozen families, larger cities have several thousand.
 The Jews are outsiders within the feudal order, therefor they have a great deal of autonomy in regulating their own affairs
 Communities raised their own taxes according to what the community needed to fund-such as synagogues and cemeteries.
 Crime inside the community was resolved by rabbinical courts, no police force or prisons-typically predators were banned temporarily or fined.
 To follow the dietary laws of the faith the community had bathhouses and slaughterhouses so all the meals eaten in the community satisfied religious laws.
 The Jews also developed large commercial operations over time, particularly in Spain (Barcelona) under Christian rule. 
 Held good working positions: Land tenants. Teachers, scribes, moneychangers etc.
 Jewish crafts and guilds grow and their professions often associate them as lenders and with usury-creating the stereotype of the Jew as a rich tenant or lender.

Patterns of Discrimination:

 The Discrimination that is directed to the Jewish community is from the belief to see them as the murderers of Christ, thus in the Christian faith they were banned from the communities.
