The National Front Of France
The National Front Of France The National Front (FN) in France has seen a rise in the electorate and in power for some 17 years. According to R. Karapin his Summary of the Radical Right and Neo-Fascist Political Parties in Western Europe, the rise of the FN is a result of immigration conflicts, political alienations, and a reaction against Left-Libertarian issues. Other scholars believe that the FN popularity comes not from their successes but from the weakness and divisions of the traditional Right, and/or the charismatic leadership of the FN, headed by Jean-Marie Le Pen. In truth, the spread of the FN may be due in a large part to the political context of the 1980s and 1990s. In the mid-1980s, Mitterand introduced proportional representation in the National Assembly, this gave the FN an opportunity to break free from the traditional Right-wing parties. This theory also brings to play Karapin’s point of political alienation. With the growing dissatisfaction in the electorate with the inability of the Left and the Right to deal with important issues, of particular concern, the overflow of immigrants, unemployment, corruption, and the slowing of economic growth, the FN found the opportunity to exploit the failure of the government and of France’s major fn, political, right, parties, rise, unemployment, traditional, social, le, issues, fn’s, electorate, years, support, successes, spread, split, radical, power, pen, part, opportunity, mégret, movement, mnm, major, left, immigration, immigrants, high, gave, economic, due, decline, crisis, corruption
