Why They Hate Us
Why They Hate Us Americans have known for decades that the United States is loathed by much of the Arab world; nonetheless, most Americans rarely questioned the reason for this hate. However, since the September 11th tragedy, Americans are beginning to analyze the hatred of the Eastern world, and what the USA can do about it. In order to understand and isolate the hatred for America, one must first scrutinize the image of the United States. To the Middle East, numerous cultural icons, such as McDonalds, Britney Spears, and the Jerry Springer Show, represent the United States. One can the examples of McDonalds, Britney Spears, and the Jerry Springer Show, analyze the implication of each on the image of the United States, and the question to “why they hate us” become rather obvious. For example, McDonalds represents America’s addiction to eating on the go, and rarely having time to actually sit down for dinner. McDonalds, now located in every major city across the globe, is also representative of the United States’ imperialistic tendency to interfere.
