Beowulf
Beowulf Beowulf Essay The epic story Beowulf is the most important of all English epics. The story embodies the values and morals of the Anglo Saxon society. The hero, Beowulf travels to Denmark to rescue King Hroathgar from a monster, Grendel that has been plaguing their city for years. Beowulf later kills the monster’s mother in a bloody battle. The reoccurring imagery in Beowulf’s battles and in describing his mail shirt help prove that Beowulf is an epic hero. The reoccurring imagery describing Beowulf’s chain link mail shirt is an example of Beowulf’s huge stature. When Beowulf first arrives in Denmark his armor gleams with pride and honor "The silvery metal of his mail shirt gleaming". This shows Beowulf being portrayed as a larger than life character. It also shows that Beowulf’s armor gives him the appearance of invulnerability. When Beowulf kills Grendel’s mother her claws were "blunted by the woven metal shirt he wore on his chest". This image of Beowulf’s near death being averted by his mail shirt helps prove that his woven mail shirt gives him an inhuman advantage. No normal mail shirt could hold beowulf, beowulf’s, shirt, mail, imagery, shows, epic, battles, strength, story, mother, monster, fierce, armor, woven, sang, reoccurring, prove, metal, life, larger, kills, images, huge, honor, hero, grendel’s, grendel, gives, fights, describing, denmark, city, bloody, being, anglo, against, years, wore, vivid, visual, values, valor, twisted, treasure, travels, superior, stature, stabs, split
