1.	a) Contemplated love according to Russell is identified as one part of an emotional pole. Russell addresses that in order to attain the good life, one must be inspired by love and knowledge. Thus, contemplation can be expressed as keeping the idea that is brought into the mind for some time actually in view. On the other hand, Russell claims that there's a second emotional pole of love, and that is benevolence. Thus, underlying the disposition to do good, good will, charitableness, love of mankind, accompanied with a desire to elevate their happiness.

1.	b)  The example, which substantiates the point made in the second paragraph, exemplifies that role of love and knowledge. That one needs love and knowledge in order to sustain the good life.
