Red Light Running
Red Light Running Exclusive Summary: The suggestion to evaluate Red Light Running was proposed by Hart Solmon; manage of Traffic Engineering and Operation at the City of Hamilton. Mr. Solmon proposed this study because of the hundred of accidents resulting from Red Light Running Hamilton in the last two years, and the recent installation of a Red Light Camera. In Hamilton, Red Light Running resulted in approximately 360 collisions at signalized intersections in 1999. Since 1995, 6 people have died, and motorists running red lights have injured over 2000 people in collisions. Introduction: Running a Red Light is a serious violation, with a fine of $190, and 6 demerit points. Red Light Running is a significant issue because such violations can result in serious injuries and fatalities. According to the City of Hamilton Traffic Department, Hamilton has the most Red light runners per population, that’s worst than Toronto. Since Hamilton has such a high rate in red light running, the city equipped 8 intersections with red light cameras. Red light cameras have been in operation since November 20, 2000. A year later the city has proposed evaluation on these intersections. Hamilton is currently equipped with 2 Red Light Cameras red, light, running, intersection, time, amber, motorist, lights, observed, hamilton, study, report, sherman, camera, although, upper, speed, southbound, responded, people, drivers, since, run, react, pm, intersections, accidents, accident, through, stopped, queensdale, peak, objective, need, motorists
