“Civilization”

Thomas Ince’s Civilization was very dramatic and easy to follow.  Although it’s a silent film you are able to do your own narration.  Throughout the movie quotes pop up to give you a better understanding of the scene that’s occurring some just normal subtitles and thers somewhat pacifistic. There’s only so much you can follow with the movements and actions of the characters. So having the main ideas of a conversation help you follow scenes more accurately.
	Thomas Ince depicts that “civilization’s” madness of war. This is shown through the women’s and family’s role. You see the mothers of men crying and yearning for their men not to be drafted. One woman said, “You can not take him, he belongs to me,” and the officer replied, “No, he belongs to his country.”  The women were the force for peace as they marched to the king asking him stop war.  The men and military assumed that they were the one who sustained the expanding domestic homes.  Family was apart of society and that
