Advertising In The Times Picyuane Advertisement in the Times Picayune Advertising in the Times Picayune is developed to a target audience based on race and ethnicity. Though it man not be the stated objective, advertising reinforces such concepts of white mans privilege and blacks as a second-class citizens. Advertising also tries to make the world racially balanced by using tokens and it fails to see beyond black and white. Through studying seven days of the newspaper and reading different sources advertisings role is reinforcing social stratification and its viewers “tapes.” Advertising helps to reinforce that North American culture is a place for a white person to be privileged. They have the opportunity to spend money, purchase luxurious items such as clothes and jewelry. Four advertisements featuring rich clothes were show. Dillard’s wedding ads were also seen featuring white women in wedding dresses. There were also 10 advertisements featuring fancy jewelry with white women wearing it. Minion Fagot an expensive New Orleans jewelry store ran in this category.
