Napoleons Invasion Of Spain And The Impact Of The Spanish Guerrillas
Napoleons Invasion Of Spain And The Impact Of The Spanish Guerrillas The Invasion of Spain Between 1808-1814 the struggle between Napoleonic France and the Allied forces of Spain, Britain, and Portugal would become known as the Peninsular War. Based in Spain this confrontation would see Spain conquered and re-conquered by the French in a veritable chess-game of multiple factions, changing circumstance and, even, luck. One factor, which has been debated fiercely up until this day, is the question of the Spanish guerrillas or partisans. More specifically, how significant was the role played by the guerrillas in bringing about the defeat of the French in Spain. In this question there are many factors that must be considered to answer this question appropriately. Initially it is important to consider the motivation behind the guerrilla movement, the almost mythic God, King, and Country, and the way the French conquest inevitably inflamed these feelings into an underground resistance. Also the effect of guerrilla warfare on conscription and desertion, not only to the Spanish army but also the French army (a fact which is usually overlooked). Also the methods with which the different factions in the war used to supply their movements. Finally the actual impact of the guerrillas on The Peninsular War, which, simply could be french, napoleon, guerrillas, spanish, army, been, spain, while, resistance, regular, king, war, guerrilla, even, against, way, supplies, matter, conscription, support, peninsular, god, desertion, country, allied, warfare, people, out, generally, different, very, said, question, occupation, much
