The Graphical User Interface Revolution The Graphical User Interface Revolution Today, more than 90 million copies of Microsoft Windows are used in businesses worldwide. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft Corporation, popularized the user of graphical user interfaces in the 1990s by introducing Microsoft Windows. As early as 1977, Gates realized the need for operating system changes. A key element missing in operating systems was the capability of application software to interface easily with a computer's input and output devices. Although he recognized the need for change, it was several years before Bill Gates and Microsoft Corporation would take action. At .A 1982 computer convention, VisiCorp Corporation demonstrated a software interface called VisiOn. VisiOn contained many of the operating system changes Gates had imagined. In response to VisiOn, Microsoft Corporation began the development of what was called the Interface Manager .
