On a worldwide basis, the Internet has given rise to new organizational forms, such as portals, virtual communities, reverse actions which in many ways have changed the nature of exchange relationships between and among companies and most importantly individuals. The interconnectivity made possible by technology has increased the speed of interaction.

As a result, the Internet has emerged as a new medium of economic and social exchange. It has sparked a variety of new business models for offering products and services that rely on interactivity, direct exchange of information between individuals and virtual co-presence.

In recent years, the Middle East and North African region governments, recognizing the need to develop the telecommunications and IT sectors, have made heavy investments in these areas. Furthermore, they have eased restrictions on foreign entry and granted more liberalization.
