Horatio Hornblower
Horatio Hornblower Cecil Lewis Troughton Smith was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1899. When Cecil was two years old, his mother took him and his four siblings to London. His father was a minor British governmental officer in the Egyptian ministry of education. During his childhood and teen years, he went to Alleyne’s School. In 1915 he went to Dulwich College in London. When he tried to enlist in the army, he failed the physical, so he went to study medicine at Guy’s Hospital for a few years. Finally, in 1921, he decided to start writing. He decided to make his pen name Cecil Scott Forester. When he was 38 he put out the first Horatio Hornblower book, Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. When Cecil was 33 years old, he was offered a contract through Hollywood. Since this was a pretty good break for him, he would come to America for thirteen weeks of each year up until 1939. During World War II he worked for the British Information Services. In 1943 he stopped writing for a while because he developed arteriosclerosis, which left him permanently crippled. Towards the end of the war, he came over to the United States to move to California because of the better climate. In 1961 he had a severe heart attack, but horatio, hornblower, smith, very, chapter, captain, boat, because, book, made, out, man, just, men, go, first, after, story, spanish, simpson, pellew, indefatigable, good, world, really, one, didn’t, about, take, himself, fire, even, while, wanted, life, lieutenant
