Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh Gilgamesh Essay In many literary works characters are faced with difficulties and struggles on their journeys. An excellent example of this is Gilgamesh in The Epic of Gilgamesh. The epic hero, Gilgamesh, faces many conflicts, overcomes them, and emerges victorious on his journey. Gilgamesh faces many difficulties during his life; the first difficulty he faces is going to the Cedar Forest. There are a few reasons why Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Gilgamesh’s companion, go into the Cedar Forest. They went to get wood for Gilgamesh’s town of Uruk, and he also goes because he wanted a way for his name to be remembered forever. He also faces many difficulties when Enkidu dies. Enkidu dies because the gods had to punish somebody for cutting Humbaba’s head off after he was dead, and because they tore out the bull’s thigh and threw it in Ishtar’s face. The gods chose Enkidu because of Gilgamesh’s semi-divine nature. Gilgamesh also faces many difficulties when he goes on his quest for immortality. He goes on a quest to find Utnapishtim, the only person that gods gave eternal life to, because after Enkidu’s death Gilgamesh realizes that he isn’t going to gilgamesh, difficulties, enkidu, forest, because, cedar, quest, humbaba, one, immortality, faces, realizes, people, overcome, live, going, goes, gilgamesh’s, epic, wood, outcomes, mental, inspiring, gods, go, forever, faced, dies, died, death, works, victorious, utnapishtim’s, two-thirds, two, respect, physical, overcame, out, life, let, kill, island, humbaba’s, having, god, given, gains, first, enkidu’s
