Overview
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien is an excellent book.  The characters are very well developed and the setting is unlike any other.  This book is the first of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  In the beginning of the book we meet Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, Bilbo being the main character to the prequel, The Hobbit by Tolkien.  It is Bilbo’s 111th birthday, and it his plan to secretly leave his home in “the Shire”.  At a magnificent festival/party, Bilbo makes his disappearance, literally, with the help of his magical ring.  This ring is the master ring, the “One” ring, and has the property of rendering its user invisible.  Bilbo makes his exit back to his house, where the wizard, Gandolf the Grey meets him.  Bilbo reluctantly gives up the ring (and his house in the Shire), and then leaves to his destination.  Frodo soon comes back from the party, and inherits both the property and the ring.  Gandolf explains a little about the ring to Frodo, and then leaves.  Frodo lives the next nine years peacefully…
