My Brother Sam is Dead
My Brother Sam is Dead The story takes place in Redding, Connecticut during the American Revolutionary War in the 1770’s. My Brother Sam Is Dead was written by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. This book is narrated by the main character by Tim Meeker. The Meeker family was managing absolutely fine until Sam told his loyalist family that he would be fighting the British and become a rebel. As the war continued, Tim had to make a choice to either become a loyalist like his father, who he admired and loved, or become a rebel like his brother who he always looked up to. The book takes place in Reading, Connecticut where the winter months bring about frequent snow storms and mostly cold winter days. The snow storms allow the Meekers to butcher their cattle and store the meet under the hay piles until the spring season. In the 1770’s, the Meeker family lived off their farm to support their tavern. They harvested vegetables, milked and sold their cattle, and used their horses for transportation.
