Scarlett letter
Scarlett letter In the novel, The scarlet letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne arrives at colony where she is accused of adultery due to a love affair with minister Dimmesdale. As a result of this affair is their daughter Pearl. She is sentenced to wear a scarlet letter, which symbolizes her sin. The Puritan society turns her into an outsider due to her sinful action. The characters actions, throughout the text, convey the themes of hypocrisy and the inherent viciousness of the human spirit. One of the romantic elements that is used by Hawthorne, is the love between Hester Prynne and Mr. Dimmsdale. Knowing that their love is forbidden and looked down upon , they choose to follow their hearts and accepting the future consequences. The author acknowledges Hester’s strength and bravery. She does not reveal her partner’s identity and decides to take the blame upon herself. “Wondrous strength and generosity of a woman’s heart !She will not speak!” (Pg48) Even though Hester is tortured by her feelings for Mr. Dimmsdale, she accepts and faces the consequences like a courage’s woman. Hester proves her courage when the chance to flee her sentence and remove scarlet, hester, pearl, although, society, sin, puritan, able, woman, one, because, mr, love, letter, actions, town, should, punished, others, might, governor, feelings, dimmsdale, dimmesdale, characters, young, upon, true, though, symbol, prynne, protect, person, out, meteor, itself, identity, hawthorne, forest, each, decides, courage’s, blame, affair, accept, witch, viewed, treatment, think, take
