Tori Amos Tori Amos Tori Amos Myra Ellen Amos was born on August 22, 1963 in Newton North Carolina. However, she was actually raised in Maryland by her father who was a Methodist preacher. Myra was musically talented from the young age of two and a half. She began playing the piano at this time in her life. By the time Myra was four she was singing and playing the piano in her father’s church choir. At age five Myra was considered a music prodigy and won a scholarship to Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory. While she was studying at Peabody, she became infatuated with Rock & Roll, particularly the music of Led Zepplin. Unfortunately, after six years of studying at Peabody Myra failed her re-entry audition because even after all those years of studying music she couldn’t read sheet music.
