The Life of Edgar Allan Poe
	Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Edgar was the second of three children. At the time Rosalie, the third child, was born Mr. David Poe a Baltimore actor, died or disappeared. Mrs. Elizabeth Poe was an actress and born of English parents and then moved to Richmond with Rosalie. William Henry, the older brother, had been left with relatives in Baltimore. Mrs. Poe died with the tuberculosis disease leaving Edgar, two years old, and Rosalie, an infant, orphaned. (www.poedecoder.com)
	In 1811 on a visit of charity, Mrs. Francis Allan, the wife of a merchant in Richmond, learned of the Poe babies. Mrs. Allan had no children of hew own and was very attracted to little Edgar. Mrs. Allan had taken little Edgar home with her and another family took the infant, Rosalie. Mrs. Allan would have loved to adopt Edgar, but her husband was unwilling to make the step. John Allan did not want a son of actor’s parents to inherit his mane or the fortune he was bus working on. At the time the acting profession was despised and even thought of as being immoral.
