The Weekly Maintenance Of Snakes

Although snakes are not commonplace animals to keep for pets, they do have several redeeming qualities for companionship.  One of the best qualities is probably being their low maintenance requirement in order to flourish. The overall process is remarkably simple; consisting of the removal and feeding of the animal, disposing of fecal matter and/or substrate, the restoration of the terrarium to its proper state, and finally the bathing and  re-introduction of the animal to its environment.

The first thing you must do is to remove the animal with a snake hook (a long pole with a hook affixed to the end) and place it in a large storage container. These can be bought at any hardware store for storage purposes, and you must drill holes in it for ventilation. Take freshly killed or thawed pre-frozen rodents of fowl (to prevent injury to the snake) and place them in the cage using large tongs. Firmly secure the lid, and you are now ready to move on to the next step.

Next, remove the water dish, hide ornament, and any other permanent furnishings of the cage and place them in a bucket.
